Assessment of graft compatibility of tomato, brinjal and chilli rootstocks on tomato varieties

The present research attempts were made to assess the graft compatibility of tomato scions viz, Arka Vishal, Kashi Chayan, and Saaho with three rootstocks tomato (MHTO101), brinjal (IC618029) and chilli (EC402105). Among the rootstocks, tomato (MHTO101) exhibited the shortest germination period (3.70 days) and a lesser number of days (27.60) taken to reach the grafting stage. In the case of scions, Saaho showed the quickest germination (3.10 days) and longer days (23.90) to reach the grafting stage. Though the diameter of the scion at 1 DAG was showed non-significant, but diameter of the rootstock was found significant due to variations in diameter among the species. At 45 DAG the maximum diameter of the rootstock was observed in Kashi Chayan × IC618029 (Brinjal) (9.36 mm) while in case of scion it was Arka Vishal × IC618029 (Brinjal) (6.65 mm). The scion-rootstock ratio on diameter basis was found significant both at 1 DAG and 45 DAG and the ratio was not differed more in case of Kashi Chayan × EC402105 (Chilli) (0.98) at 1 DAG and Saaho × EC402105 (Chilli) (1.06) at 45 DAG. Height of rootstock and scion were non-significant at 1 DAG and found significant at 45 DAG i.e. Kashi Chayan × IC618029 (Brinjal) combination was best for rootstock and Saaho × IC618029 (Brinjal) combination was found best height for scion. Maximum Graft success percentage (85%) reported in Arka Vishal × IC618029 (Brinjal) combination while minimum in Kashi Chayan grafted on EC402105 (chilli) (39.17%). Minimum number of days (4.81) for graft healing reported in Saaho × MHTO101 (Tomato) combination. Arka Vishal × MHTO101 (Tomato) combination took a minimum days (10.38) to attain the transplanting stage. This experiment revealed the variations in the solanaceous species with respect to graft compatibility until 45 DAG.
