Multi-port Thévenin’s Theorem: A New Matrix Formulation and Efficient Calculation Method of Equivalent Circuit Constants

A new matrix formulation for the multi-port Théenin’s theorem is proposed, which allows each port to be represented by a single equivalent source, while specifying whether it is a voltage or current source. Additionally, an efficient method for determining the values of these equivalent sources using Tellegen’s theorem and inter-reciprocity is described. The method described in this paper is applied to the equivalent circuit analysis of a power supply circuit that provides multiple voltages or currents in an electronic device.

Abstract

A new matrix formulation for the multi-port Théenin’s theorem is proposed, which allows each port to be represented by a single equivalent source, while specifying whether it is a voltage or current source. Additionally, an efficient method for determining the values of these equivalent sources using Tellegen’s theorem and inter-reciprocity is described. The method described in this paper is applied to the equivalent circuit analysis of a power supply circuit that provides multiple voltages or currents in an electronic device.
