Creating an Energy-Efficient Óbuda University Blockchain in Education for Secure Data Storage
Blockchain technology is becoming more and more popular these days, despite this, many people are skeptical about it and even reject its use. Two years ago, famous people expressed their displeasure at the high energy requirements of blockchain technology to be sustainable, causing a huge backlash, and as a result, even the coin prices began to fall sharply. The aim of the research is to reveal which blockchain technology requires the least energy during its operation. As part of the practical implementation of the research, a private university blockchain will be created, which enables efficient data storage for educational institutions and requires less energy compared to so-called "traditional" blockchains. As a result of decentralized data storage, universities can store their sensitive data more securely compared to cloud-based centralized data storage, since they are saved and distributed on the nodes. To increase the energy efficiency of the blockchain, it is calculated which solar solution could reduce the energy cost of the blockchain's operation to a value close to zero.
