A Study on Propagation Path Analysis Method for Radiated Emission from EV High Voltage Systems

Electric vehicles (EVs) incorporate numerous high voltage systems that employ high frequency switching controls, potentially resulting in higher electromagnetic noise levels compared to conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. In this paper, we propose an analysis method to identify the individual RE contribution of each high frequency noise propagation path in an EV. This method is practical and effective under vehicle test conditions, such as during a driving mode, where it is not possible to switch off each suspected component one by one. The ‘contribution of each high frequency noise propagation path’ in this context refers to the intensity of the electric or magnetic field emitted by each cable or conductive structure through which the high frequency noise travels. It was demonstrated in this paper that the electric field intensity calculated by adding up the individual contributions of each route is similar to that obtained with a single measurement from the testing setups based on a relevant standard.
