Parameter Robustness Comparison of Pseudo-Sliding Mode Observer and Extended EMF Observer for Synchronous Reluctance Motors
Position control is crucial for the effective operation of synchronous motors, facilitating essential transformations and control strategies. This critical position information is typically acquired through sensors or position observers, which are increasingly utilized in many applications these days. However, the reaction of these observers to motor parameter variations remains uncertain when employed for position determination. In this study, we compare two position observers designed for synchronous reluctance motors in terms of their robustness to motor parameter variations. Our findings reveal that the Extended EMF (EEMF) observer demonstrates superior robustness compared to the Pseudo-Sliding Mode Observer (PSMO) in the face of parameter changes. The PSMO exhibits persistent speed deviations, leading to increased positional errors. Conversely, the EEMF observer effectively mitigates these deviations, closely tracking the motor’s actual speed and position. Our results highlight the EEMF observer’s capability to handle motor parameter changes and uncertainties, positioning it as a more effective choice for reliable motor control applications.
