Speed and Torque Model Predictive Control for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

The paper presents a finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). Compared to the commonly presented approaches, here both speed and current controllers are based on predictive formulas. The load torque observer is applied to ensure disturbance compensation. The novelty of the proposed solution lies in the designed cost function, where additional components were introduced to provide high-performance operation of the drive. This article also presented researches results about impact different values of cost function components reinforcements where this aspect was skipped in similar articles. Experimental tests were carried out to evaluate the performance of the developed control algorithm, focusing on angular velocity regulation, load torque compensation, as well as current and velocity ripples. The proposed solution were compared to the reference one, namely cascade control structure with PI current and speed controllers.
