Secure Communication Planning in LoRaWAN Network
The Internet of Things (IoT) networks keep scaling rapidly, introducing throughput bottlenecks. This paper proposes a novel communication planning approach for Low-Power Wide-Area Networks (LPWANs) to enhance energy and communication efficiency. By leveraging the Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) protocol and the Network Server Slot-Based Communication Planning Protocol (NS-SCPP), we propose the infrastructure to carry out wireless communication over long distances with low energy consumption and more efficient communication. In IoT networks with many communicating devices, simultaneous transmissions may cause collisions. Collisions corrupt the transmitted data, leading to increased energy consumption and inefficient bandwidth and duty cycle utilization. In this paper, we propose a new medium access approach in the form of a protocol operating at the application layer. The protocol manages the communication schedule of end devices on the Application Server. The solution is supplemented by an additional security layer - the Certification Authority to ensure end device identity and message integrity.
