Tactical Wireless Network Management Challenges in Urban and Suburban Areas: Analysis of Coverage Ranges
In this paper we discuss the problem of the planning of the tactical wireless networks in urban and suburban areas. The analysis is based on simulation results that cover communication backbone and wireless sensors deployed in areas with various urbanization scale. Different frequency bands that reflect the capability of currently used tactical radios were selected. They cover VHF, UHF and microwave bands. We also considered wireless sensor network deployment in urban areas. Wireless sensors technologies based on LoRa and Wi-Fi were modelled and coverages were assessed. In particular, we analyzed the possible benefit resulting from the frequency band change, the transmitter power increase and antenna height.
