Detection of Instantaneous EMC Failures in Reverberation Chambers and VIRC using a Generic Equipment

This article presents a study on the possibility to detect instantaneous failures, which occur immediately after exceeding a certain field level, in a parallelepipedic reverberation chamber and in a VIRC(Vibrating Intrasic Reverberation Chamber). These failures are detected using a generic equipment under test (EUT) developed in this study. This equipment allows studying the impact of the stirring techniques on failures detection on a fair basis. Measurements are conducted in the reverberation chamber with step-wise stirring (i.e. fixed positions of the mode stirrer) with continuous stirring (i.e. continuous movement of the mode stirrer) and in the VIRC with continuous stirring only. It is shown that continuous stirring better highlights EUT failures and in the meantime allows a clear reduction of the measurement time.
