Optimal multi-fault tolerant control for PMSMs – Part I: Feedforward control

In this publication series, consisting of two parts, a generalized optimal fault tolerant control system for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (PMSM) is derived. The basis is the Subdomain Model, employing Maxwell equations for calculating the magnetic flux distribution with high accuracy. Because of this detailed physical description, the developed control system can be adapted in an efficient way to motor-intrinsic electrical and magnetic faults. Since these faults can be handled also when occurring in combination, the presented control system is multi-fault tolerant. In this part I a feedforward control is developed which predicts optimal currents and voltages for a constant torque in steady state case. By representative simulations it can be shown that all considered faults as well as combinations of faults are compensated by that feedforward control.
