Mitigating the UART over CAN-FD MeLiBu Radiated Emissions using Split Termination

With the wide expansion of the electric automotive industry nowadays the demand of controller area network is exponentially increasing. This increase requires faster communication speed, efficient communication, more resilience to the electromagnetic emissions conducted by the vehicle electric components and pass the international electromagnetic compatibility standards. This paper addresses the importance of using split termination in the controller area network to mitigate the common mode voltage, radiated emissions and enhance the communication signals quality while using Melexis light bus communication system which is composed of universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter communication system over CAN-FD physical layer.

Abstract

With the wide expansion of the electric automotive industry nowadays the demand of controller area network is exponentially increasing. This increase requires faster communication speed, efficient communication, more resilience to the electromagnetic emissions conducted by the vehicle electric components and pass the international electromagnetic compatibility standards. This paper addresses the importance of using split termination in the controller area network to mitigate the common mode voltage, radiated emissions and enhance the communication signals quality while using Melexis light bus communication system which is composed of universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter communication system over CAN-FD physical layer.
