Extended Capabilities of PEEC-based Approach for the Modelling and Design of Common-Mode Chokes

This paper presents modelling methodology for common-mode chokes (CMC) with multi-wire (double or triplewire) winding’s structure, bifilar CMC and 4-phase power inductors with toroidal and oval-shaped magnetic cores. Simulation models are based on the Partial Element Equivalent Circuit (PEEC) method. Validation of the PEEC-based models of the examined chokes is performed by comparison of the calculated impedances with results of 3D modelling and measurements.

Abstract

This paper presents modelling methodology for common-mode chokes (CMC) with multi-wire (double or triplewire) winding’s structure, bifilar CMC and 4-phase power inductors with toroidal and oval-shaped magnetic cores. Simulation models are based on the Partial Element Equivalent Circuit (PEEC) method. Validation of the PEEC-based models of the examined chokes is performed by comparison of the calculated impedances with results of 3D modelling and measurements.
