Comparing the Four-Antenna and Two-Antenna Methods for Shielding Effectiveness Characterisation in a Double Reverberation Chamber

This paper describes a comparison between two methods to characterize the shielding effectiveness (SE) of materials in a double reverberation chamber (RC). The first method is the two-antenna approach, which measures coupling with and without material between the source and measurement antenna, to calculate SE. The second method is the four-antenna approach, which also considers chamber losses. The central question is whether the use of two additional antennas and a four-port vector network analyzer (VNA) is necessary for accurate SE characterization. The results show that there is no big difference between the two-antenna and four-antenna method.

Abstract

This paper describes a comparison between two methods to characterize the shielding effectiveness (SE) of materials in a double reverberation chamber (RC). The first method is the two-antenna approach, which measures coupling with and without material between the source and measurement antenna, to calculate SE. The second method is the four-antenna approach, which also considers chamber losses. The central question is whether the use of two additional antennas and a four-port vector network analyzer (VNA) is necessary for accurate SE characterization. The results show that there is no big difference between the two-antenna and four-antenna method.
