Impact of Radiator and Groundplane Configuration of Spline-Based Planar Monopole Sensors in Radiated EMC Testing
This paper presents experimental measurements of radiated electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) using planar monopole sensors with ultra-wideband characteristics. The sensors used in the testing consist of three models, each of which has a different radiator and groundplane configurations, with the same physical total size of 40 mm × 50 mm and the thickness of 1.57 mm. The Model I is configured with a spline-based radiator and flat partial groundplane. The Model II has a spline-based radiator but in a different shape from the one used in the Model I, with the same flat partial groundplane. The Model III has the same radiator shape as the one used in the Model II, but it has a spline-based configuration on the groundplane. By using devices under-test (DUT), which work at 2.4 GHz, 4 GHz, and 5.8 GHz frequency bands, the EMC testing is carried out at the distance of 1.5 meters and the height of 1 meter. As a result, the Model II sensor is able to detect the radiation emitted by the DUT at all three frequency bands, i.e., ${9 8. 3 0 \mathrm { dB }} \mu \mathrm{V} / \mathrm{m}$ at $2.4 \mathrm{GHz}, 83.88$ $\mathrm{dB} \mu \mathrm{V} / \mathrm{m}$ at 4 GHz, and $102.98 \mathrm{~dB} \mu \mathrm{~V} / \mathrm{m}$ at 5.8 GHz.
