Model Predictive Control for Multiphase Electric Drives with Reduced-error Slope Term
The higher complexity of multiphase electric drives (MED) has been recently addressed with Model Predictive Control (MPC). In its standard version, MPC typically seeks for the minimum current error, but it does not consider the individual value of each current term. This procedure allows an eventual divergence of some current terms as long as the total sum remains low, and this requires a compensation of such terms in the next sampling period. Aiming to restrict this phenomenon, this paper suggests considering not only the current errors, but also their tendency. This control version with a reduced-error-slope term is termed REST-MPC, and simulations confirm its ability to simultaneously reduce the total harmonic distortion (THD) of phase currents and the switching frequency in the voltage source converter (VSC).
