DISTÚRBIOS DA ARTICULAÇÃO TEMPOROMANDIBULAR: UMA ANÁLISE FRENTE A SUA ETIOLOGIA, DIAGNÓSTICO E MANEJO CLÍNICO
Temporomandibular joint disorders include problems related to the joints and muscles that surround them. Often, the cause of TMD disorder is a combination of muscle tension and anatomical problems in the joints. Sometimes a psychological component also intervenes, these disorders are more common in women between 20 and 50 years old. For the diagnosis of temporomandibular pathologies, the examination of muscles and joints is essential and requires education and training from the examiner. The examination is based on measuring joint movement, evaluating temporomandibular function and palpation of muscles and joints. Treatment of all patients with temporomandibular disorders aims to reduce or eliminate pain, restore jaw function and reduce the need for future medical care. A key determinant of therapeutic success is patient education about the disorder they suffer from, as well as self-care, which includes jaw exercises, habit changes, and proper use of the jaw. The present work aims to analyze the etiology, diagnosis and management of temporomandibular disorder and highlights the role of the interprofessional team in the evaluation and treatment of patients with this condition.
