Rescue Archaeological Investigations at the Cucuteni Site Glinjeni X – La Bot (Fălești District)

In 2023, the National Archaeological Agency conducted rescue archaeological investigations at the Cucuteni A-B site Glinjeni X – La Bot in the Fălești district. As a result of the investigations, a ditch oriented north-west – south-east and a surface dwelling were partially studied. The dwelling consisted of an accumulation of heavily burned clay fragments, mixed with chaff or chopped vegetal materials, and displayed numerous imprints likely originating from the frame of the separating ceiling of the two levels of the dwelling. The thickness of the accumulation varied in different sections, ranging from 5 to 20 cm. The imprints of the wooden frame beams indicate that the substructure was placed perpendicular to the long sides of the dwelling walls. Under the layer of burned clay of the dwelling, a fragment of a grindstone, three tools made of hard rocks, several flint items, a bone awl, and three fragmentary anthropomorphic figurines were discovered. The materials identified during the rescue investigations find analogies in sites attributed to phase A-B of the Cucuteni culture in central and northern Moldova, and we believe that the Glinjeni X – La Bot site can be dated to the beginning of the A-B2 stage.
