A case study on sustainable aviation fuel adaptation by South East Asian countries: Opportunities, reality, and the current gaps
This case study aims to examine the potential of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production in South East Asia and provide an overview of biofuel production in the region. South East Asia has a large serve of bio-feedstocks. The estimated feedstocks can be used to produce 52.9 million US-barrels/yr of SAF to satisfy jet fuel demand from all air operators in the region by 2050. These SAF feedstocks are mostly in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippine, Thailand and Vietnam. This case study also highlight regional cooperation and consistent institutional policy as two essential elements for a successful SAF development in the region.
