Cover Feature: Tetrel Bond Affects the Self‐Assembly of Acetylcholine and its Analogues and is an Ancillary Interaction in Protein Binding (Chem. Eur. J. 59/2024)
Experimental and theoretical results consistently indicate that the −CH3 groups of choline as well as of its agonists and antagonists containing the −N+(CH3)3 moiety can form tetrel bonds with a variety of nucleophiles. Importantly, this interaction can also contribute to the binding of these molecules to proteins; it might thus be convenient that chemists and biochemists become as acquainted with the tetrel bonds formed by the −N+(CH3)3 moiety as they are with their daily servings.
