Photographic image analysis methods
This paper examines the photographic image analysis methods used in historical research through the lens of two art historical approaches: Abi Warburg's iconological method and Erwin Panofsky's Iconograph-ic/Iconological Analysis. Aby Warburg's iconological method involves analyzing images in context, includ-ing historical, cultural, and emotional aspects. It analyses the symbolic language of images in a broader cul-tural and historical context, beyond stylistic analysis. Erwin Panofsky's Iconographic/Iconological Analysis is an approach that aims to uncover cultural, historical, and symbolic meanings represented in works of art. The method consists of two combined processes: iconography and iconology. Visual data provides a tool to ex-plore the visual aspects of social structures, cultural practices, and historical representations in historical re-search. Have you ever wondered how visual data is analyzed in the humanities? It's not just about the tech-nical aspects of images, but also about their interpretation and contextual significance. Understanding these factors is crucial for effective analysis. Images are complex pieces of visual communication that require a thorough analysis. To achieve this, it is essential to take into account the place of production, intended audi-ence, and location
