Revolutionary candle-type precoat filtration within the sugar industry: Case study of trial in a factory

Within the sugar industry, candle filter technology has proven to be state of the art, especially in the filtration of carbonatation slurry. The results of large-scale process installations in two German beet sugar factories show that Lenzing’s CakeFil design was able to double the service life of the filter cloths, even without final optimization, resulting in a significant reduction in the number of filter cloth changes required by 50%. These improvements not only contribute to increasing efficiency, but also reduce downtime, which is crucial for production processes. However, these results will be surpassed in the future through ongoing optimization, thus reducing filter cloth changes during the campaign to a minimum.
