Empowering MetroAccess Service with Nested Decomposition and Service Type Integration
This paper presents an innovative solution to improve paratransit services for individuals with disabilities by integrating alternative service types, such as accessible taxis, into a nested decomposition approach. The upgraded system significantly enhances operational efficiency, resulting in an approximately 15% reduction in operating costs and improved key performance metrics such as vehicle idle time. The successful implementation of this approach in the DC metropolitan area demonstrates its potential for nationwide adoption, benefiting both paratransit operators and riders.
