Being a steward of good science: A complete primer on peer review
Functioning as a peer reviewer is a career-essential role that fulfills a critical role in the proper and healthy functioning of the research community. Training for this task has traditionally been left to individual mentorship within a doctoral program. However, long overdue resources are now being provided by various actors in the community including journals, publishers, societies, and institutions. Dr. Clark Holdsworth has been advising reviewers and authors and preparing curricula centered on the peer review process for the better part of the last decade. In this webinar, he will condense this peer review guidance into a digestible 1-hour format that will better prepare reviewers at any career stage to be more productive stewards of science in this critical role. Collated advice from managing editors, peer review coordinators, and editors-in-chief will be shared. Additionally, guidance on current best practices and norms will be delineated for each step of the process. Examples include: • Professional correspondence • Constructive tone • Structuring reviews for clarity • Supporting the editor in decision-making • Contributing to developmental writing • Safeguarding research integrity Join us: 9:00 AM EST on Thursday October 24 (9:00 PM UTC+8) A certificate of completion will be provided after the session.
