Analysis of the Research Status of Hydrogen Energy Storage in New Power Systems and the Development Prospects of Xinjiang Region

In the background of the “double-carbon” era, the State Grid Corporation of China aims to set up a green power system with stable operation, while effectively improving the utilization rate of clean energy. Therefore, recently, Hydrogen energy storage technology has a good time for development. Hydrogen energy storage technology has many advantages and characteristics such as its simple hydrogen-electricity conversion mode, easy seasonal long-term discharge, large-scale long-distance transmission, and enhanced on-site consumption and absorption capacity of new energy sources. It has a certain irreplaceable role in the new power system. This paper first analyzes the key application technologies of hydrogen energy storage systems; secondly, discusses the application of hydrogen energy storage on the “Source-grid-land” side of the power system; and finally, summarizes the development advantages and challenges of hydrogen energy storage in Xinjiang. The results show that the theoretical discussion of hydrogen energy storage technology is detailed and feasible, and it has special advantages more than traditional energy storage methods. The uniqueness of Xinjiang is better for the wide development and application of hydrogen energy storage systems.
