Implementation of Predictive Current Control Technique for a 1-Phase 5-Level Switched Capacitor-Based Grid-Connected Inverter
In this paper, a predictive current control technique (PCC) is used as a substitute for direct-quadrature (DQ) control, also called linear control, for a switched capacitor (SC)-based multilevel inverter (MLI) topology. The PCC technique has several advantages over linear control techniques, such as simplicity, low total harmonic distortion (THD), fast dynamic response, and constraint handling. etc. The PCC technique allows the efficient and precise control of active and reactive power, resulting in improved system stability, reduced power losses, and optimal utilization of resources. These advantages were validated by implementing the PCC technique in the SC-based MLI topology. The capacitor was automatically balanced using the given switching states. The results were validated using the MATLAB/Simulink software. The performance indices of the step change in the reference current in the resistance and inductive(R-L) load were analyzed using the simulation results. Specifically, in the grid-connected case, the step change in the power factor and magnitude of the reference current were examined. The simulation outcomes have been presented to demonstrate the fast and efficient dynamic functionality, the negligible level of harmonic content in the current of the grid, and the automatic balancing of the SC.
