Thermal Behavior of Half Subtractors on Virtex and Genesys FPGA Boards: A Comparative Study

With the increasing need for efficient communication and green energy, this research analyzes the thermal and power characteristics of half subtractor circuits built on the Virtex Genesys FPGA. By comparing various half-subtractor architectures, we assess their temperature profiles and power consumption. According to our research, hardware implementations that are optimized can result in significant energy savings and improved thermal efficiency. This work demonstrates how important it is to integrate green energy concepts into FPGA-based designs in order to promote the creation of highly efficient and ecologically friendly digital systems. Whereas the Virtex board uses 3.602 W of power, the Genesys board uses $0.825 W$. The Virtex and Genesys boards consume $77.09 \%$ less power respectively. The differential in temperature between Virtex and Genesys is $73^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$ and $58.5^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$, respectively. Empirical evidence suggests that the Genesys board uses less energy than the Virtex board.
