Enhancing Glaucoma Detection through Deep Learning Algorithms
Glaucoma is a condition characterized by the gradual loss of retinal cells in the optic nerve, leading to irreversible vision impairment due to optic neuropathy. This disease often progresses silently, without early symptoms, making its detection challenging until significant vision loss has already occurred. To address this critical issue, deep learning (DL) models have emerged as powerful tools for precise glaucoma detection. Our proposed architecture harnesses deep learning, specifically utilizing a convolutional neural network (CNN), to significantly enhance the accuracy of glaucoma detection. CNNs are particularly adept at extracting intricate patterns that distinguish between glaucomatous and healthy conditions, leveraging their hierarchical feature extraction capabilities in image analysis. Central to our approach is the evaluation of the optic cup-to-disc ratio, a crucial metric in the diagnosis of glaucoma. Moreover, we integrate an image data generator to augment our dataset, thereby enriching and refining the diagnostic process. This augmentation enhances the model's ability to generalize and perform effectively across diverse datasets. Our model demonstrates outstanding performance, achieving an impressive accuracy rate of 98%, surpassing many existing algorithms in terms of both efficacy and reliability.
