Research on the Application of Highway Engineering Test using Mixed Finite Element Modelling Based Detection Management System

The Detection Management System (DMS) in Highway Engineering Test (HET) plays a crucial role in ensuring the structural integrity of the road networks. These systems are useful in evaluating the state of the highways and bridges and any other structures mainly indicating the older infrastructures and the increasing traffic density. The current research used Mixed Finite Element Modelling (MFEM) based DMS for the HET aimed at increasing the safety, efficiency and durability of the highway structures. The methodology involves determining the structural identification through load testing and Non Destructive Evaluation (NDE) that involves Vibration Analysis Test and Ground Penetrating Radar. This updates the model structural responses that in turn enable identification and prediction of the potential failure modes. The experimental results show the approach enhanced the decision-making process of highway engineering projects to improve performance and safety of important transportation structures by obtained results in terms of monitoring accuracy 98.88%, and precision in detecting risks at 97.65% at Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of 30dB when compared to the existing methods such as Non-Contact Testing (NCT) and Distributed Fibre Optic Sensors (DFOS).
