Analysis of Power Oscillation Damping Performance in Grid-forming VSC HVDC System Using RTDS HILS
This paper analyzes the power oscillation damping performance of a Grid-forming MMC (Modular Multi-level Converter) HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) system using the practical controller developed by Hyosung Corporation. To achieve this, a power oscillation simulated system and an RTDS HILS (Hardware In the Loop Simulation) were constructed, and the results were compared with the conventional Grid-following (GFL) method. The results confirm the feasibility of applying Grid-forming control to MMC HVDC systems and validate that the system enhances the stability and reliability of the power system in terms of power oscillation damping.
