Challenges and gaps in intergovernmental coordination in the fight against dengue
This study analyzed legislation and public policies to combating dengue in Brazil, with an emphasis on the state of Rio Grande do Sul and the cities of Porto Alegre, Novo Hamburgo and Santa Maria, between 2014 and 2023. Using a deductive, monographic and comparative method, the study examines the effectiveness of legal regulations at the federal, state and municipal levels, as well as the gaps in coordination between the different levels of government. The analysis of data on dengue cases in the selected cities highlighted the need for an integrated and continuous approach to address the proliferation of Aedes aegypti. The results demonstrated that, despite a robust legal framework and local initiatives, the lack of effective coordination between levels of government compromises the implementation of vector control measures, hindering the sustainable response to the disease. The study suggests that strengthening intergovernmental cooperation is essential to increase the efficiency of public policies in combating dengue.
