A 2.4-GHz 1.2-dBm 8PSK TX Based on a Class-C Injection-Locked Power Amplifier
An injection-locked power amplifier (ILPA) operating in class-C is presented. Class-C operation allows the ILPA to apply an 8PSK modulation to the output phase through a data-driven frequency division by 4. By doubling the number of symbols compared to QPSK modulation, high spectral efficiency is achieved. The result is a low-power transmitter integrated in 65 nm CMOS, that reaches a maximum efficiency of 18.3% while delivering 1.32 mW with a 2% error vector magnitude (EVM).
