Performance Enhancement of CDRA for 5G Applications

This paper presents the design and performance enhancement of a cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) for 5G wireless communication applications. The proposed CDRA is excited using a 50Ω microstrip line with an aperture slot and optimized using higher-order mode excitation and substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) techniques. The design aims to improve gain, bandwidth, and radiation efficiency while maintaining compactness and low losses. Simulation results using Ansys HFSS demonstrate significant performance improvements, achieving a peak gain of 8.2 dBi and a bandwidth of 7.68% around 28 GHz. The integration of SIW technology and some modifications, such as introducing holes in the resonator, contribute to the overall enhancement of the antenna's performance, making it suitable for high-frequency 5G applications.
