Optimising the Design and Control of an Ultra-Fast Charger for Electric Vehicles

The paper presents the design and analysis of the input stage of an ultra-fast charger (UFC) for electric vehicles (EV) that integrates a three-phase active rectifier with a photovoltaic (PV) system. The UFC consists of three 50 kW DC-DC converters that power electric vehicles simultaneously. Necessary design specifications are discussed, such as rectifier power rating, AC input voltage and frequency ranges, and DC output voltage. Special attention was paid to design usability considerations, including solar panel configuration and LCL filter design. Control loops and MPPT (maximum power point tracking) algorithms ensure efficient and stable system operation under various environmental and load conditions. Simulation results show the system's performance in different scenarios and confirm its effectiveness in charging electric vehicles while integrating renewable energy sources and maintaining grid stability.
