Performance of Different Electromagnetic Band Gap Structures as Band Reject on Ultra-Wideband Antenna
This study investigates the integration of four distinct Electromagnetic Bandgap (EBG) structures within an Ultra-Wideband (UWB) planar antenna. The objective is to create a band-stop filter that suppresses unwanted frequencies in two specific bands: a lower band below 3 GHz and a higher band exceeding 5 GHz. This design allows the desired UWB signal centered around 3.5 GHz to operate without interference. The UWB antenna, fabricated on an FR-4 substrate, utilizes a half ground plane integrated with each of the four EBG configurations. These EBG structures function as filters, targeting specific frequency ranges: 2.4 GHz to 2.8 GHz and 4.5 GHz to 7.2 GHz. From the results, it can be seen that the designed EBG structures able to suppress the unwanted frequency band of the UWB antenna and allow the desired frequency band (3–4 GHz) to operate.
