Gain Enhancement of Fractal Antenna Using Metamaterial

This paper discussed the gain enhancement of the Minkowski fractal antenna with metamaterial. A conventional patched antenna is designed at 3.5 GHz as the 0thiteration and modified to the 2nd iteration of the Minkowski fractal antenna. The reduction of gain was observed and that is the main drawback in fractal antenna despite of its advantage in reducing the overall dimension of an antenna. Metamaterial is used in this work to enhance the gain by having a multilayer superstrate. The antenna is simulated using CST software. The performance of the antenna has been observed on the reflection coefficient and the gain through the radiation pattern. The gain of 2nd iteration fractal antenna with metamaterial is observed to improve from 0.96 dBi to 3.48 dBi.
