Applications of Solid Insulation for High-Voltage Equipment of Different Voltage Classes

The research focuses on solid polymer insulation, specifically on certain operational factors affecting the parameters of solid polymer insulation. For a more detailed examination of solid polymer insulation, the article provides a classification of polymers, commonly used materials, and the main insulation parameters considered in the initial stages of insulation design. The authors investigate several operational factors, such as the active volume of insulation, exposure time to voltage, and insulation structure, influencing the dielectric strength of solid polymer insulation. The derived dependencies and patterns can be directly used to assess the dielectric strength of large-volume polymer insulation; in selecting the permissible value of dielectric strength for cast epoxy insulation in weakly non-uniform and sharply non-uniform electric fields under different voltage exposure durations; and for modifying the electric field in the insulation gap. The dielectric strengths of cast epoxy insulation, considering the examined operational parameters, were experimentally determined.
