Ad-hoc Vehicular Network to Optimize Vehicular Mobility
In Ecuador, land transportation is mainly carried out by vehicles circulating on roads. The growth of the transportation sector is linked to other phenomena, such as traffic accidents, with a consequent increase in fatalities and injuries. According to data from the National Transit Agency (ANT), in 2022 there was a slight increase of 2% in traffic accidents, 8% in injuries and 3% in fatalities, compared to 2021.The proposed solution involves implementing VANET (Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network) technology to improve vehicular traffic management. This technology enables intercommunication between vehicles and road infrastructure, improving traffic efficiency and safety. Advanced simulation tools such as SUMO, OMNeT++ and Veins were used to model different traffic scenarios and test vehicle management strategies before their actual implementation. The simulation showed that vehicles equipped with OBUs could receive real-time information about traffic jams and accidents, allowing them to adjust their routes to avoid congestion. The implementation of RSUs provided the necessary communication infrastructure to support the vehicular ad-hoc network.
