Simulation of Snowmobiles - Small Electric Vehicles with a Track

Since electric transportation is greener and less harmful to the environment, there is currently a growing interest in its development. The university racing team “Formula Student” has been developing the design and implementing a prototype of a small electric vehicle with a caterpillar track - a snowmobile. The primary goal is to attain maximum speeds while expanding the travel range. This article presents the state-of-development for electric and hybrid snowmobiles. We have simulated and analyzed the power traction system of electric snowmobiles. The resulting simulation model, under certain assumptions, allows to study electric and electromechanical processes in the all-electric snowmobiles. The results and driving characteristics obtained from simulation can be used to evaluate and design electric snowmobiles when fine-tuning its prototype.
