Analysis of Damage from Power Failure of Static Thyristor Compensator in Electric Arc Furnace System

The article considers the influence of the static thyristor compensator (STC) on the performance of the arc melting furnace (AMF). The relationship between the power and voltage of the AMF, the stabilization of which is ensured by the STC, is presented. To assess the damage, statistics of failures of electrical equipment that ensures the continuity of the AMF and STC are provided. The analysis and impact of the current voltage at the point of common connection on the electrical equipment of the main step-down substation (GPP) of the AMF is carried out. Particular attention is paid to the end couplings of power cables with a rated voltage of 35–42 kV. The work calculates the damage from a decrease in the AMF productivity due to an interruption in the power supply to the STC as a result of the predominant failures of cable lines (CL). When calculating the damage, the average time required for restoration in real production conditions is taken into account.
