Application of Self-Regulated Permanent Magnet Eddy-Current Brakes for Improvement of Dynamic Stability of Distributed Generation Systems
The applications and usage of small power plants is growing, so the challenge is to ensure the reliability of distribution networks with distributed hybrid generation. This paper describes a method for ensuring stability by creating additional braking torque on the shaft of synchronous generators during faults. The application of a permanent magnet eddy-current brakes with a self-regulating torque (PMECB), which can be used to improve the dynamic stability of power systems, is considered. Torque control is achieved by changing the configuration of the magnetic circuit or the conducting rotor. The possibility of using a self-regulated PMECB to ensure the dynamic stability of synchronous generators is analyzed. The constructed simplified model shows the possibility of using a self-regulating brake with permanent magnets to brake the rotor of a synchronous generator during power drops.
