Experience in Installing an Active High Harmonics Filter to Improve the Functioning of Specialized Medical Equipment
The introduction of digital technologies into energy systems and the intellectualization of energy networks force us to pay increasing attention to the issues of power quality control. Due to the rapid technological development of electrical equipment, there is a need to find new approaches to solving problems of electromagnetic compatibility. This article discusses the main aspects related to the impact of power quality violations on the operation of electrical equipment, including specialized equipment for medical institutions. For medical institutions, despite the importance of complying with power quality indicators, there are no special requirements for their control. However, violations of power quality parameters lead to a decrease in the accuracy of displaying diagnostic results, which leads to distortions in the study and the occurrence of errors, which in some cases can be fatal. The State Autonomous Healthcare Institution “Interregional Clinical Diagnostic Center” of the city of Kazan was considered as the object of the study. As a result of a study of the dynamics of power quality indicators at particularly critical facilities of the Interregional Clinical Diagnostic Center, a deviation of the total harmonic component coefficient of currents THDi of up to 48% was revealed. To combat this violation, an active higher harmonic filter was selected and installed, which is a universal means of protection and can simultaneously perform several functions: reducing the level of higher harmonic components, power factor correction, reducing power losses, reducing flicker, etc. Installing an active harmonic filter reduced THDi to 2.5%, which is within the existing international standards.
