Insecticidal effect of Quinolizidine and phenolic compounds extracted from lupines luteus against American cockroach (Periplaneta Americana) and German cockroach (Blattella germanica)

This study evaluated the insecticidal efficacy of quinolizidine and phenolic compounds extracted from lupines luteus seeds using methanol against 4th instar nymph and adult Periplaneta Americana and Blattella germanica. The results showed that lupines luteus contain 6.652mg/200g dw alkaloids and 1.68g/200g dw total Phenolics. Levels of LC50 and LC90 for lupines luteus against 4th instar nymphs and adult of the American cockroach were lower than the levels for the German cockroach. Lupines luteus extract has a strong inhibitory impact on AChE in adult and 4th instar nymph of both the German and American cockroach with the level of AChE in the German cockroach lower than in the American cockroach. Toxicological studies on rats showed that the lupines luteus extract was eco-friendly and harmless to experimental animals. Therefore, lupines luteus extract can be used as a harmless and eco-friendly insecticide against 4th instar nymph and adult of both the American cockroach and German cockroach.
