Extraction of Bio Oil from Jordanian Biomass Resources via Pyrolysis and its Antibacterial Effect
This study explores the potential of pyrolytic oil extracted from Jordanian biomass resources as an antibacterial agent. Pyrolysis, a transformative thermal decomposition process, offers a promising avenue for converting biomass into valuable products. Pyrolytic oil, derived from biomass via pyrolysis, presents a complex composition and inherent antibacterial properties, making it a candidate for addressing antibiotic resistance and promoting sustainable solutions. Five biomass feed stocks were subjected to pyrolysis and their product distributions were analyzed. Pyrolytic oil yields were investigated and antibacterial activities against four bacterial strains were evaluated using disc diffusion, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) assays. Results indicate varying levels of antibacterial activity among the biomass extracts, highlighting their potential as eco-friendly antibacterial agents.
