Analyzing Bearing Capacity of A Shallow Foundation on Cohesion-Less Soils Under Combined Loads
Ensuring the stability of a shallow foundation against complex loads is vital in geotechnical engineering, particularly with the growth of superstructures and the frequent occurrence of significant earthquakes. This study aims to determine the maximum bearing capacity of a shallow foundation on cohesion-less soil. An analysis of the foundation-soil system is analyzed through the rigid plastic finite element method (RPFEM) to calculate the maximum bearing capacity against different combinations of vertical, horizontal, and moment loads. The study examines how these combined loading conditions affect the maximum bearing capacity and the failure mechanisms of a shallow foundation. New equations are introduced to define the V-H and V-M failure envelopes, and the findings include predicted failure envelopes for vertical and moment loading, which are then compared with existing literature.
