Speed Controller Design for Interior PMSM Drive Based on Model Reference Adaptive Control Strategy in EV Applications

This paper proposes a speed controller using model reference adaptive control (SC-MRAC) strategy for an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) drive system in electric vehicle (EV) applications. The proposed algorithm employs the cascaded control structure because of its popularity in motor variable speed control, in which this controller is used for the outer speed loop. The proposed speed controller combines two terms: the first term is designed to guarantee asymptotic stability, and the second one is designed to compensate for the uncertainties with respect to resistance, d-q axis inductance, and inertia values. Moreover, the proposed controller has a disturbance rejection capability. The system stability of the outer speed control loop is proven by using the Lyapunov theorem. The simulation scenarios are performed to reflect a good tracking performance, a fast dynamic response, and robustness against the parameter variations and external disturbance.
