Power Quality Improvement For Grid Integrating Wind Power Source And Nonlinear Loads
Wind energy sources have been developed rapidly in recent years. This energy source is intergrated to the grid through power electronic converters, causing power quality issues. Power quality is further deteriorated when there are nonlinear loads in the grid. This article builds a model to study the effects of DFIG wind power and nonlinear loads on the power quality of the distribution grid, focusing on evaluating the influence of harmonics on the power grid and voltage fluctuation when short circuit occurs. The results of simulation on matlab/simulink software show that harmonics generated from nonlinear loads strongly affect the power quality of the power grid. Passive filters are used to limit harmonics, combined with D-Statcom to support the wind generator’s voltage when there is a transient short circuit on the grid. The L and C values of the passive filter are designed to ensure filtering of the selected harmonic orders, supporting reactive power for the power grid, not increasing the voltage at the generator terminal and avoiding network resonance.
