Higher Order Mode Cluster (HOMC) Generation By A Quantitative Laser Ultrasound Visualization (QLUV) Technique

To overcome the drawbacks associated with using guided waves at low frequency, the higher-order mode cluster (HOMC) was suggested. Higher Order Mode Clusterguided waves are produced utilizing either Meander-Coil EMATs or a piezoelectric transducer to give incident waves via the polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) wedge. The finite element analysis (FEA) method with ABAQUS software was also used to run the simulations and look into how the HOMC waves form and move through the medium. However, the previous results from the experimental methods are not sufficient to verify the simulation results. This study uses the quantitative laser ultrasound visualization (QLUV) method to generate HOMC-GW. The Fast Fourier transform (FFT) was used to convert the time domain to the frequency-wavenumber domain. The results from this study, including the dispersion curve and stress magnitude, have good agreement with the analytical approach. It then contributes to consolidating the simulation process’s results. In addition, the study proposes a non-contact method for generating HOMC-guided waves.
