Effect of Vetiver Grass (Chrysopogon zizanioides) on Soil Leachate Physicochemical Properties: Preliminary Assessment From a Mini-lysimeter Model

A mini-lysimeter was established to evaluate the physicochemical properties of soil leaching when transitioning from paddy soil to Vetiver and Non-vegetation models. The results showed that the Vetiver model treatment treated 12.5% of leaching water compared to the Non-vegetation model treatment. Meanwhile, pH and EC were similar in both models, which were mainly regulated by rainfall during the investigation period. The leaching concentration and total leaching nitrate in the Vetiver treatment displayed a significant decrease of 16.5% and $31.5 \%$ compared to the Non-vegetation treatment, respectively, indicating the significance of regulating the amount of runoff soil. Further research with long-term observations will be necessary to verify our preliminary findings.

Abstract

A mini-lysimeter was established to evaluate the physicochemical properties of soil leaching when transitioning from paddy soil to Vetiver and Non-vegetation models. The results showed that the Vetiver model treatment treated 12.5% of leaching water compared to the Non-vegetation model treatment.
