Intermittent synchronization in a population of neurons with adaptive myelination

Recently, the myelination process in neuronal circuits was shown to be adaptive, i.e. dependent on the activity of the involved neural cells. We demonstrate that this type of brain plasticity may lead to the emergence of intermittent synchronization, which is the alternation of episodes of synchronous and asynchronous activity in time.

Abstract

Recently, the myelination process in neuronal circuits was shown to be adaptive, i.e. dependent on the activity of the involved neural cells. We demonstrate that this type of brain plasticity may lead to the emergence of intermittent synchronization, which is the alternation of episodes of synchronous and asynchronous activity in time.
