A Study on the Growth of Leguminous Plants and Changes in Soil Microorganisms According to Chlorogenic Acid Concentration of Coffee Ground Extracts

As Korea’s coffee consumption gradually increases, the problem of coffee ground processing is emerging as a new environmental problem. The effects of coffee extracts on the growth of plant were examined and the chlorogenic acid ofdifferent coffee beans were measured. As a result, the chlorogenic acid contained in the coffee ground extracts showed a positive effect on the growth of three different legumes. In addition, when the coffee extracts were treated in the soil, soil microbiome was analyzed Pseudomonas laurentiana, Paenarthrobacter ureafaciens and Pseudomonas urethralis were found. Also showed differences result depending on the concentraion of coffee ground extracts treated in the soil. Therefore, this study showed the possibility of developing economical and eco-friendly liquid coffee meal fertilizers by replacing the existing solid coffee meal fertilizer, and confirmed it can help increase the production of plants by solving environmental problems and recycling coffee ground.
